In 1978, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam decided to commission photographers Catrien Ariëns and Bertien Van Manen to document the growing women's liberation movement.
Women fighting together for their rights, against patriarchy, for equal pay with their male colleagues, strikes at Phillips and more.
For the first time, women emancipated themselves and confronted a totally unbalanced system.
Both photographers Catrien Ariëns and Bertien van Manen showed their personal point of view and even got involved in many of the activities they documented.
This is an essential part of the history of feminism in the Netherlands, helping us understand that unity is the only way to fight an unjust system.
