"The Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission found in the photographic images that
depicting the violence perpetrated over the years, an invaluable feedback to reconstruct, starting from the reconstruction of a spiritual memory through those images, this history of ours that must not be forgotten nor abandoned to indolence. Faces of desolation and perplexity fixed forever in the image unrepeatable, hands deeply marked by hard work that show us, open and desolate, the small image of the missing family member, and like this, other scenes that it would be possible
not to allow the interest in spreading oblivion and indifference to prevail, and to write, instead, our history that is realized under the sign of a peremptory mandate: that horror not be repeated, that the memory of pain may be transformed into hope, that life in Peru may pass under the sign of solidarity and justice."
Salomón Lerner Febres, President of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
Photojournalistic documentary with more than 100 images that portray what happened during the internal armed conflict that Peru experienced between 1980 and 2000. Through photography, the history of 20 years of terrorism has been reconstructed, during which time more than 69,000 lives were lost. The images show the different dimensions of the tragedy experienced during this period and expose several of the stories of resistance by state agents and members of civil society. In addition, a chronology of the violence and human rights violations is presented in detail.
