On 22 October 2020, the Constitutional Court in Poland ruled on the abortion law. The ruling, which meant a de facto ban on abortion, led to the largest protests since the fall of communism. The demonstrators not only opposed the Court's ruling, but also the conservative government and the influence of the Catholic Church in the country. A culture clash ignited in the streets, led mainly by young women. To jest wojna, they said. This is war. Even after the largest protests died out and the cameras turned away, the resistance continued. Dutch writer and photographer Kris Oosting followed the protest movement from Warsaw, where the LGBT community, which has been under great pressure in Poland in recent years, was also emphatically involved in the protests. He recorded the turbulent months in a photo essay and interviewed protesters about their motivations. This is his account of young women leading an uprising, in a city that is always changing.
