Three years of destruction is a book that is, like others from the same period, part of the propaganda against Salvador Allende's government by elaborating the before-and-after strategy, showing negatively life in Chile under the elected government with the intention of preparing the ground for the coup d'état of 11 September 1973. The strategy involves not only attacking the choices of the government administration, but also demonizing the figure of Allende with a skilful choice of images that when juxtaposed can tell of a starving country and a president living in luxury and surrounded by weapons.
The book was printed in three languages, Spanish, English and French for international circulation and promoted by an Association of printers in Chile, without clearly understanding who they were.
