In South Africa the word comrades have a dual meaning. It can mean "friends" or it can mean "friends in the struggle".
Whether it's the anger at the death of comrade, or the joy of marching shoulder to shoulder with other comrades, the "comradeship" is there.
Like the word comrades this book has a dual purpose. The first is to show how this comradeship has gripped South Africa; the relationship that have been formed, the clashes between various groups and the feelings of people working for a new society.
The second purpose is to actually document history. to preserve, in a book, the development of this country.
From the introduction of the book.
