Rosangela Rennó highlights the overlooked narratives of everyday protagonists during a time of great social and political upheaval in Uruguay and throughout Latin America between 1957 and 1973. She addresses the phenomena of national amnesia surrounding historical events, born out of the censorship imposed by the military regime, and aims to reintroduce these images into a present day context. Invited by the Centre of Photography in Montevideo, Rennó projected images of these protests using old slide projectors to ‘collectively remember what would be forgotten’ against those who want to erase or discredit the memory of those events.
