Plebiscito en Chile, 1988 brings together more than sixty photographs taken by photographer Álvaro Hoppe between 1983 and 1990. The publication deals with the 1988 plebiscite, which ended the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile. The story is constructed in a sequence of three historical periods. The first chapter, Manifestaciones por la democracia (Demonstrations for Democracy), shows images of the most symbolic moments of resistance to the dictatorship. The second, The plebiscite campaign, shows snapshots of the Yes and No demonstrators, political agglomerations and captures of the television coverage. The final chapter, on 5 October 1988, is the last section and shows the voting process, the tense wait for the results, the declarations of the No command and the Ministry of the Interior to end the celebration and the uncertainty about the story that we now know how it continued.
