Azucena Villaflor was the founder of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo movement. She set out in desperation to find her son Néstor, who had disappeared on 30 November 1976. Because of her strength, determination and courage, she was abducted on 10 December 1977. Her struggle lives on in each and every one of us.
On 10 December 1977, International Human Rights Day, the Madres published a newspaper advertisement listing the names of their disappeared children. That very night, Azucena Villaflor was abducted by an armed group from her home in Avellaneda (province of Buenos Aires). According to some accounts, she was held captive at the ESMA concentration camp, where Alfredo Astiz was among the perpetrators.
