In 2024, the MAXXI L'Aquila hosted the exhibition “Lisbon, the night is over! - The Carnation Revolution in the photographs of Paola Agosti”. Through 28 photographs, the exhibition recounted the days of the Carnation Revolution: from 25 April 1974, when the dictatorship in Portugal fell, to the great demonstration on 1 May in Lisbon.
Paola Agosti, then very young, was one of the few foreign photographer present during those days. Her photos perfectly capture the atmosphere of enthusiasm, celebration and brotherhood that permeated the streets. The images on display came from two of her trips: one in the spring of 1974, immediately after the revolution, and the other in the summer of 1975, when Portugal was still building its new democracy.
