Photo exhibition Where's Next? takes just a quick look at the numerically large series of protest photographs taken by Nik Erik Neubauer between May 2020 and April 2022. During this period, the modern world entered a previously unknown state of insecurity, fear, and general confusion, fueled by the emergence of the covid-19 pandemic. With growing unease, conflicting information and some questionable political actions, community resentment grew and fueled a wave of protests across the country. At first, these spread rather spontaneously, but over time they became a civic initiative that drew attention to pressing social issues and controversial political practices every week (especially on Fridays). At the same time, several protests were also organized by other social groups, raising various issues and voicing their criticisms of the social situation.
Nik Erik Neubauer's series of protest photos also began spontaneously at first, but then, in light of the ever-increasing structuring of the content of the protests, it has evolved into an extensive collection of images, which today represent not only a systematic archive of events, but a unique approach to the genre of reportage-documentary photography. It is protest photography that often plays a key role in shaping the collective narrative of a specific protest movement. Therefore, in some cases, protest photography moves from recording to commentary and interpretation by those behind the lens.
