In this book are photos by Lex de Herder, Bertien van Manen, Peter Martens and Koen Wessing as well as Robert De Hartogh who for years worked on the lives of migrants in the Netherlands that has long been the thread of his work. A topic he focused on completely since the Afrikaanderwijk race riots in Rotterdam.
The accompanying text of this book mainly expresses the motivation to show understanding toward the 'guest workers,' because 'hatred is born of misunderstanding.' These photographs have made an important contribution to the image of migrants in the Netherlands.
