The question posed by the management of the Parque de la Memoria – Monumento a las Víctimas del Terrorismo de Estado is how we can recover the life stories of those who were arrested, disappeared and killed during the last civil-military dictatorship. The answer they offer us in this book is conveyed through the images of Marcelo Brodsky, making visible the existence of individuals whose identity was denied by the state, because the image denounces, demands, pays tribute and, above all, reminds us that behind those names lay friends, families, ideals and dreams crushed by state violence.
A journey south in place of the traditional graduation trip. A walk – one of the last – with brothers in the Flores neighbourhood. A family wedding celebration. A get-together with friends for a drink. "Recovering these contexts is a way of drawing closer to the lives of each of the people who form part of the Monument. Displaying the details of their lives and the circumstances of their disappearance and/or murder alongside the photographs allows us to complete these stories and thus, symbolically, to reconstruct fragments of the identities of the disappeared.”
