On 10 February 1971, a South Vietnamese Army helicopter was shot down over Laos, killing four renowned war photographers.

The four journalists who were killed were Kent Potter, Henri Huett, Keisaburo Shimamoto and photographer Larry Burrows. They were in a South Vietnamese helicopter operating in Laos when it crashed.

The Vietnam War was one of the most reported conflicts in the history of warfare. The war correspondents in the field shared the same dangers that confronted the front-line troops, risking their lives to witness and report the realities of the battlefield. Sixteen Americans lost their lives while covering the war.

Photographers were covering Operation Lam Son 719, a large-scale operation in Laos by South Vietnamese forces against the North Vietnamese Army and the Pathet Lao.
