What unites the group of photographs we have here? There are many things by which these images constitute a body: the gazes of interpellation or desolation, suffering, fear; the mute cry of pain, rage and impotence; dignity, perseverance, resistance, search, destruction, barbarism, prison, long waiting, death and, in spite of everything, life stand out in them. The images add fragments of our near or distant history, whether lived in the flesh or not. Either way, they move, disturb and shake us. They make us remember even what we have never lived, because we see them from the collective memory and with the emotion of what those moments meant; we see them with our senses and our conscience open. These photographs link us to memory in the etymological sense of the word, and so we pass through our hearts again those faces, those experiences that belong to us, like the shared struggles and hopes.
