Travelled through Java and Borneo in Indonesia commissioned by ABC-Press and the publishing house Contact in 1947 Cas Oorthuys made a reportage on the Indonesian people touched by the merdeka (freedom) and the pride of them just after the independence declared on 17 August 1945.
EEN STAAT IN WORDING is a documentary work that depicts the current state of Indonesia, including the lives of the Dutch and Indonesians, in an objective and suggestive manner. The reportage was made possible with the full cooperation of Dutch and Republican authorities. Includes images from the last weeks before the signing of the Linggadjati Agreement, showing various aspects of Indonesian reality.
