Marcelo Montecino is one of the few photographers to have consistently documented some of the most significant events in Latin America: the military coup in Chile and the wars in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala, but above all the political developments in Chile from the Allende government to the return to democracy. In 1981, he won the international competition “Con Sangre en el Ojo” for a photographic book on dictatorships in Latin America, selected by a jury that included, among others, Gabriel García Márquez, Julio Cortázar and Ariel Dorfman.
He has also worked as a production assistant on various current affairs television programmes, covering news from Central America.
