Published three years after the coup d'état in Chile, this book retraces the path of Salvador Allende through the eyes of Italian reporter Gian Butturini.
It is a valuable and historically important testimony, reminding us of a now distant period when the entire Italian left, and others, saw Salvador Allende's Unidad Popular government as a symbol of the democratic path to socialism, respectful of Parliament and the Constitution, and therefore an example full of hope.
Gian Butturini arrived in Chile in the spring of 1972 and immediately became involved in Chile's revolutionary and socialist cause. He devoted himself to traveling around the country, visiting factories and rural villages, meeting workers, poor farmers, and fish markets.
