As one of the first members of the Red Army faction, Astrid Proll was involved in the various terrorist activities of the groups during the late 1960s. Many decades later, through photographs and essays, Poll tries to reconstruct his memories of the Baader Meinhof and its role within it.
The Baader Meinhof group, as it was in Italy with the Red Brigades, had the intention of starting a civil war in Germany, as she writes, was "ruthless and useless", the product of too many drugs and too many rarefied ideas about mass movements and on the class struggle. "We have ridiculously overrated ourselves" she writes, "indulging in the illusion that a revolution was conceivable in the prosperous Federal Republic". The misadventures of the Baader-Meinhof gang led not to the revolution but to the murder and violent death of many of the protagonists.
